GBTA NYC Chapter: 2026 Government & Legislative Updates

Navigating the Global Tug-of-War: Policy, Progress, and TSA Lines

This session provides a critical deep dive into the shifting regulatory landscape and legislative priorities currently reshaping the business travel industry. As business travel continues to move—sometimes "slightly delayed and mildly rerouted"—GBTA has been on the front lines, persistently nudging officials on both sides of the Atlantic to ensure our industry doesn't just survive, but functions efficiently.

Session Overview

Deep Dive: Advocacy & Insights: In this session, we will break down the latest advocacy wins and the ongoing "excitement" of global policy, including:

The U.S. Perspective – Turbulence at the Border: An update on the DHS shutdown's impact on Global Entry, TSA staffing shortages, and the "hurry up and wait" reality currently facing domestic travelers.
Modernization or Bust: A look at FAA modernization efforts and the push for streamlined airport screening to turn tight connections from a "high-stakes sport" into a seamless experience.
Musical Chairs at the DHS: How the recent leadership shake-up in Washington could shift regulatory priorities for the remainder of 2026.

We will also explore the escalating requirements for Scope 3 emissions reporting under new sustainability mandates, such as California’s SB 253 and SB 261, which demand unprecedented transparency in travel data. Furthermore, the session will address the federal government's 2026 political priorities, including FAA modernization and ongoing efforts to streamline biometric security through the Entry/Exit System (EES).

Why Attend?

Whether it's the push for sustainable tourism or fighting for timely refunds and passenger rights, global advocacy affects your bottom line and your travelers’ sanity. By attending, members will gain the strategic foresight necessary to:

1.Mitigate Traveler Friction: Anticipate delays caused by new biometric and ID mandates.
2.Maintain Policy Compliance: Stay ahead of rigorous new environmental reporting standards.
3.Advocate for Progress: Get the "inside track" on the dysfunction and the triumphs as we work to keep the $1.3 trillion business travel economy moving forward.
